Traditional sailing vessel For Sale

Vessel Specifications

This outstanding example of an ocean going Norwegian fisher cutter is now for sale.
She was built in 1915 in Olve, Norway massively constructed of Norwegian fir on oak beams and designed to sail as a cutter rigged gaff topsail ketch, rugged and strong to cope with conditions found in the North Sea fishing grounds.
She was rebuilt in 1947 in order to carry cargo from Bergen to the nearby fjords. The days of sailing vessels working commercially were soon over. She was saved and in 1979 she was converted at the famous Ring Anderson Shipyard in Svendborg.
The hold was fitted out to provide saloon, galley and sleeping quarters retaining the original timbers. She was now ready to commence a new career sailing the Mediterranean as a classic charter yacht.
She is a fine example of her type and would provide an excellent base for learning, a working platform for study in an active forum; historical or practical: mechanical, boat renovation, wood working skills, the list is endless.
She has been traditionally maintained to her original specification and for the last eleven years she has been used for classic charter in the Mediterranean teaching the way people have been sailing for over a century.
She is ideally suited for corporate charter or sail training and would offer significant benefit to your organisation.

A Short Introduction:

The cutter-rigged gaff-topsailed ketch was built in 1915 in Olve as an ocean-going Norwegian fishing cutter. She was totally rebuilt in 1947 and then carried cargo from Bergen up to the nearby fjords. In 1979 she was taken by her new owner to Denmark. The boat was completely refitted, including new masts, rigging, sails, fuel-tanks, engine and keel-ballast at the famous Ring Anderson shipyard in Svendborg. Only the finest materials were used during the reconstruction of the vessel. To convert her into one of the most beautiful yachts of her type took two years. She is still maintained to this traditional standard.

After doing four years charter work in the Balearic Islands, she went back to the north of Europe.
In 1989 she returned to the Mediterranean. In this year she won the traditional yacht-regatta of Imperia in Italy; she came first every day.
Following a harmonious six years at sea she was taken out of the water in 1995 whilst at Bari in Italy. She was again restored to her former beauty, which has been maintained till the present day. Since then she has sailed the mediterranean waters and can be found today in Greece.

Description and condition of the vessel:
She is a wooden cutter-rigged gaff-topsailed ketch, built originally as an ocean going Norwegian fishing cutter. She gives accommodation to 8 people in three cabins and offers a large saloon with a spacious galley.
She is to be sailed like in ancient times without the support of any modern deck or rig hardware.
According to some reported information since her construction she was refitted three times.
In 1947 she was transformed in small cargo vessel and was use for limited coasting trade from Bergen to the nearby fjords;
In 1979, after she had been purchased by a Canadian buyer and taken to Denmark, where she underwent an extensive refit at Ring Anderson Shipyard in Svendborg. During this laid-up she was converted into a beautiful yacht, rigged and motorised like she lays today.
Since then she was sailed as pleasure and charter yacht in the Balearic Isles and later in the North of Europe.
Finally in 1989 she was purchased by her actual Owner, and sailed back to the Mediterranean, where she participated to important old-timers regattas and was often used for corporate charter or contracted by authorities for events of public interest.
In 1995 she was unfortunately caught in a strong gale, whilst being moored in the harbour of Bari, South of Italy, and suffered a serious damage. With the help of her obstinate skipper, she was immediately taken care of and restored to an immaculate condition within less then a year.
The materials used during the several refits and repairs were chosen in order to observe the vessel original construction criteria. Special details like the traditional caulking, which is done avoiding the use of artificial materials, as well as the natural material used for the tarred standing rigging steel ropes, render her so unique and worthy, even if she not equipped like new conception yachts.
All masts and spars have been protected with a thick two component varnish coat, which assured an exceptional protection through the years. Similar attention for protection was given to all standing rigging and mast fittings, which are well coated and do not present any trace of corrosion.

The price is EURO 250.000
